The Erlangen Center for Astroparticle Physics (ECAP) at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg is seeking outstanding individuals for a Postdoctoral researcher position (electronics) and a PhD candidate position (machine learning).

The postdoc is expected to work on development, characterisation and commissioning of camera electronics for CTA (FlashCam, SSTCam) the PhD candidate is expected to work on machine learning for H.E.S.S. and CTA (classification, reconstruction, data/MC consistency).

ECAP offers a strong environment in the field of astroparticle physics. Research in the institute includes (but is not limited to) involvement in Fermi-LAT, H.E.S.S., CTA, eROSITA, ANTARES, IceCube, KM3NeT and the Einstein telescope and is focussed on event reconstruction, machine learning, data analysis and interpretation and development of methods and instrumentation.

Successful applicants to the postdoc position are required to have a PhD degree in Physics, Astrophysics, or related disciplines. Applicants for the PhD candidate position should have a degree in Physics or equivalent. Applicants should have a research background and provide evidence of outstanding potential. Relevant experience in electronics for the postdoctoral researcher and software development and machine learning for the PhD candidate is seen as beneficial. Guiding and advising students in their theses is expected.

Both positions are available immediately. The contracts will initially be for 3 years. The contract for the postdoctoral researcher will be in salary grade TV-L E13 for the PhD candidate 0.5 * TV-L E13. The application deadline is August 15th, later applications may be considered until the position is filled.

The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg aims to increase the participation of women in its research activities. Therefore applications by women are particularly welcome. The University of Erlangen-Nürnberg is committed to employing handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. Applications, including a Statement of Interest, CV and contact information of reference persons should be sent to Prof. Dr. Stefan Funk (s.funk@fau.de).
