Postdoctoral research positions at the newly founded Astrophysics Research Center of the Open university (ARCO)
in the areas of exoplanets or high-energy astrophysics.
Astrophysics Research Center of the Open university (ARCO), The Open University of Israel
Applications are invited for postdoctoral research positions at the newly founded Astrophysics Research Center of the Open university (ARCO) in the areas of exoplanets (to work with Dr. Allona Vazan) or high-energy astrophysics (to work with Prof. Jonathan Granot and Dr. Paz Beniamini).
The exoplanets position will focus on numerical simulations of planetary interior evolution, accounting for various relevant physical processes such as heat and material transport, composition properties and planet formation. Background in exoplanet physics and in particular in planet formation and evolution are preferred. Experience in numerical simulations and/or statistical computational techniques is desirable.
For the high-energy astrophysics positions the topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the study of gamma-ray bursts, magnetars, relativistic jets and fast radio bursts. The work may include both numerical and analytic studies, as well as detailed comparisons between theory and observations and some data analysis. Relevant experience in such types of work is an advantage.
The positions are for two years, possibly renewable for a third year contingent on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds.
Starting dates are expected around the Fall of 2021. Some funds are available for research support (travel, computing, publication fees, etc.).
Applicants should submit a single PDF containing a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, brief (up to ~3 pages) statement of research interests and experience, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to Prof. Jonathan Granot: email@example.com for high-energy astrophysics or Dr. Allona Vazan: firstname.lastname@example.org for exoplanets.
Complete applications received by May 31, 2021 will receive full consideration.
