PhD position to work on high energy gamma-ray astrophysics
at Erlangen Centre for Astroparticle Physics (ECAP), at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg
Event Details:
The gamma-ray group in the Erlangen Centre for Astroparticle Physics (ECAP) , at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is seeking individuals for a
PhD position (0.67 TV-L E13)
to work on multi-wavelength studies of pulsar wind nebula and pulsar halos, in particular their non-thermal X-ray and gamma-ray emission. This position is part of a DFG Emmy Noether group based at ECAP, focussing on “Unveiling the Origin of Galactic Cosmic Rays: Exploring Pulsar Environments at the Highest Energies”.
ECAP offers a strong environment in the field of astroparticle physics, being involved in both current (Fermi-LAT, H.E.S.S., ANTARES, IceCube, eROSITA) and upcoming (CTA, SWGO, KM3NeT, IceCube-Gen2) projects. Research in the institute focusses on (but is not limited to) improvements in event reconstruction, machine learning, data analysis and interpretation, and development of methods and instrumentation.
Requirements for successful applicants are a degree in Physics or equivalent, with specialisation in Astrophysics. They should possess a research background and provide evidence of excellent potential. Relevant experience in software development and an ability to work in a team is seen as beneficial. Supervision and teaching of undergraduate students is expected.
The position has a 3-year term and the application deadline is 10th June 2023. Later applications may be considered until the position is filled.
The Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg wishes to promote diversity, equality and inclusion. Therefore, applications by members of underrepresented groups are especially welcomed and encouraged.
Applications, including a Statement of Interest, CV, copies of recent certificates, and contact information of reference persons should be sent to Dr. Alison Mitchell (alison.mw.mitchell@fau.de).
