at Clemson University

Event Details:

Sunday, January 1, 2023

Location

Clemson , SC
United States

Applications for graduate study in the Department of Physics and Astronomy are submitted through the Clemson University Graduate School. Applications submitted electronically are most efficiently processed and are highly recommended. The department does have some requirements, however, as to what is included as part of your application.

Application Details

The following should be included with your graduate application:

  • General GRE (not required for consideration for the 2023–24 academic year).
  • Transcripts.
  • Personal statement.
  • At least two recommendation letters.
  • TOEFL (or alternative accepted English Proficiency Exam) for non-native speakers of English.

The GRE Physics Subject Test is not required, but it is recommended for students whose undergraduate degree is not in physics.

While the department does require the general GRE exam (and TOEFL for those who are not native English speakers), we consider each application on an individual basis, taking into account the letters of recommendation and the academic preparation as evidenced in the transcript. The average score on the general GRE exam for students accepted to our program is about 320; for the TOEFL, it is 97.

Application Deadlines for Fall Admission

Jan. 1: Applications receive full consideration for assistantship and fellowship opportunities. Applications completed after January 1st will be reviewed only at the discretion of the department and might not be reviewed at all. Application fees are nonrefundable.

Late February: Acceptance letters are mailed out.

April 15: Response deadline for accepted candidates.
