We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in time-domain and multi-messenger astrophysics. The position is for two years and extendable for a third year, depending on performance and continued funding. The position is funded through the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), for work on-site at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).

The complete application will consist of a curriculum vitae (max 2 pp), a publication list, and a statement of research interests (max 3 pp). This information should be submitted as a single PDF file via electronic mail to Dr. Eleonora Troja (eleonora@umd.edu). Applicants should also instruct three references to submit letters of recommendation to the same email address with the applicant's name in the subject field. All requested information must be submitted for your application to be considered; incomplete information will not be reviewed. Applications completed by August 10, 2021 will receive full consideration, late applications will be considered until the position is filled.

Applicants should have experience in observational astronomy. Candidates with previous experience in UV/optical/IR spectroscopy and imaging (from space or from the ground), radio/mm and/or X-ray observations are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will lead and participate in observations across the electromagnetic spectrum of transient objects, including gamma-ray bursts, gravitational wave counterparts, kilonovae and/or fast radio bursts. A candidate must have received their Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field prior to beginning their appointment.

The proposed starting date is September 15, 2021, although a later start is negotiable. Restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic may require that the successful candidate work remotely, at least initially. We would expect the candidate to transition to on-site work once GSFC resumes full on-site access, but this expectation can be discussed as part of the hiring process. The candidate may be required to be vaccinated; see details near the end of this posting.

Salary is commensurate with experience and relevant research. Benefits include vacation, sick leave, and holidays plus State Health, Dental, and Life Insurance for qualified candidates.
